12/30/2020 fire ridealongs
Do any of you allow fire dept ridealongs?
Do you allow the ridealong person to enter a residence or other private property?
My quick review indicates that entry into private property is a legitimate exception to Constitutional 4th Amendment rights to privacy if based on exigency (call to fire dept) but that responders have to be servicing/eliminating the exigent circumstance. Non-emergency responders such as a ridealong participants would not qualify. Our Fire Dept, however, particularly wants fire academy ridealong participants to be able to enter homes (indicating that the students won't otherwise get much out of the ridealong program).
